Size of the European drugs market…and much, more more

This is the latest post in a monthly series reproducing Andrew Brown’s monthly slideshare of interesting new facts about alcohol and other drugs which he has unearthed from a wide range of reports.

Andrew works for MEAM/Making Every Adult Matter, the coalition of three national charities (Clinks, Homeless Link and Mind) who champion the cause of people experiencing multiple needs and who have been kind enough to allow Andrew’s monthly slideshares to be re-published here.

This month’s slides focus on a range of subjects including the prevalence of complex needs; the different drinking behaviours of young people in Scotland, Wales & England and estimates of the size of the European drug market.

Slide 7 will tell you that the cannabis market is worth over €9 billion, the heroin market €7 billion and the cocaine market almost €6 billion.

Slide 10 that working more than 48 hours per week is associated with an increased risk of binge drinking.
