This edition of Andrew Brown's monthly round-up of the latest drug & alcohol stats focuses on sentencing and substance misuse treatment in community orders.

Alcohol, drugs and crime

This is the latest post in a monthly series reproducing Andrew Brown’s monthly slideshare of interesting new facts about alcohol and other drugs which he has unearthed from a wide range of reports.

Andrew works for MEAM/Making Every Adult Matter, the coalition of three national charities (Clinks, Homeless Link and Mind) who champion the cause of people experiencing multiple needs and who have been kind enough to allow Andrew’s monthly slideshares to be re-published here.

This month’s slides focus particularly on sentencing and community orders.

Here are some of the things I learnt from Andrew’s round-up this month:

  • The number of community orders that included drug or alcohol treatment (slides 2-3)
  • The reoffending patterns of people convicted of drug offences (slide 4)
  • The proportion of shoplifting offences involving alcohol (slide 5)
  • The number of people given a penalty notice for being drug and disorderly (slide 9)
