The Justice Center
The US Council of State Governments Justice Center is a national nonprofit organization that serves policymakers at the local, state, and federal levels from all branches of government. Staff provides practical, nonpartisan advice and evidence-based, consensus-driven strategies to increase public safety and strengthen communities.
It recently produced the useful justice reinvestment infographic below which summarises the US approach to cutting the prison population and saving costs by investing in community rehabilitation.
Michael Gove, the Justice Secretary, recently visited a number of justice reinvestment projects in the States and is reported to be considering a similar approach in England and Wales.
For more detail, see my recent blog post on Rob Allen’s justice reinvestment report for Transform Justice.
