The prison population

Although much of the news coming out of the Ministry of Justice about prisons — increases in violence and suicides, falling numbers of staff — is pretty dispiriting to say the least, the MoJ has at least become increasingly transparent about prison life.

By way of illustration, here’s their infographic neatly summarising the make-up of the current prison population:

As you can see, the prison population increasingly consists of those sentenced to long terms of imprisonment for serious offences.
