One prison suicide every three days

The infographic below was produced by Sarah Bartlett for the Howard League for penal reform.

It shows the rising number of people who have lost their lives to suicide in prison.

Like most good infographics, it has even more impact than the bald statistics in black and white. It is tragic that next year’s figures seem destined to be the worst ever.

The version of the infographic on this site is static, but if you click here, it will take you to the interactive version where you can see the number of suicide deaths by prison.

There were 17 suicides in Woodhill in the four years 2013-2016.
