CRC staff numbers drop by 2%
The National Offender Management Service (NOMS) just published its latest workforce information summary report which records the number of staff working for Community Rehabilitation Companies at 31 December 2014.
As you can see from the table below, overall there are about 150 fewer full time equivalent staff working for the 21 CRCs (who were at the time still part of the public sector); an overall reduction of 1.84%.
The table also shows considerable variation by CRC with three areas employing more staff (Cheshire & Greater Manchester, South Yorkshire and Northumbria) and seventeen employing less (Essex workforce stayed the same).
It will be interesting to compare the figures at the end of 2015 when the new private providers will have been operating for almost a year.
My guess is that there will be little change, or even an increase in the number of staff working directly with offenders, but a reduction in staff fulfilling other roles.

Not the case, i know of areas in the midlands that have seen a dramatic drop in PO’s and PSO staffing requiring the filling or roles with TPO’s and agency staff.
I am with a CRC just outside London. I have not seen many staff leave but I can see that it is very difficult to get new staff with no new posts being filled even though the adverts have been out for weeks both for PO and PSO’s.
